Latest News

An apology to all those who have visited our site recently as it has long been due an update, but life has been a bit busy with life and Myla, our keeper from Tiia's April 2004 litter.

Our breeding plans remain the same; we are hoping to have 2 litters this year (2025) from Kassi and her sister Eedi, however neither of these will take place until late spring and summer. We are currently researching suitable males to use on the girls that will produce the quality of pups that we strive for, and the colours that we would like to produce, so watch this space.

In other news we are delighted (and very proud) to be able to share the news that there were 4 Lumikoiras strutting their stuff on the green carpets at Crufts 2025, Miska (from our Spice Girls litter), Nolla (from Kiva's Legacy litter), and Luna, and Myla (sisters from Tiia's Coffee litter). These girls are maintaining our run of success in that every Lumikoira bred dog that has shown has qualified for Crufts. Mocha had also qualified for the show but decided to come into season instead. We were extremely proud breeders when Luna was awarded best puppy bitch (Myla was 3rd, Nolla 4th) and subsequently went on to be awarded best puppy in breed!

Luna's show successes didn't stop there as she was subsequently best Puppy in Show at the Finnish Lappund Club of Great Britain's championship show (Nolla 3rd - and Myla not shown).

I have recently added a new gallery that shows just how similar Kassi's offspring are (which can be seen here) have updated the Kiva's Legacy litter page and am in the process of adding Tiia's Kahvi litter page.

Thank you for visiting our site, we are Simon and Louise. We live on the borders of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire where we share our lives with our three Finnish Lapphunds, Ohra and her daughter Kassi, and our latest addition Myla (Ohra's niece and Kassi's cousin and auntie) we also own Sassi, who lives with some dear friends.

Two years ago the two were four, but sadly our oldest Lappies, Mylo and Kiva, passed away at 15 and 16 - not bad ages at all.

We hope that this website will convey our love of our own dogs and this very special breed.

We have been involved with Lappies for almost 20 years since first discovering them through research into which breed would best suit our lives.

We refer to ourselves as hobby breeders, meaning we breed occasionally, every year or so. The temperament of the dogs we breed is paramount to us, we want Lumikoira pups to be integral to the families where they are homed.

Saying that, we do love it when dogs that we have bred do well in the show ring.

Our affix is Finnish and translates as Snow (Lumi) Dog (Koira) - highly appropriate we felt.

We only breed from fully health checked dogs and we strive to ensure that hip-scores and COI (coefficient of inbreeding) are below the breed averages so as to ensure healthy puppies.

We have been proud to be members of the Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme since 2012, and were one of a handful of Finnish Lapphund breeders that were members of the scheme. Disappointingly in July 2024 the Kennel Club announced that they would be disbanding the scheme at the end of the year.

In addition to owning and breeding Finnish Lapphunds we have also run a home-from-home dog boarding business.

Dogs to Stay was established in 2008 after we were asked to look after one of Kiva's siblings when his owners went on holiday.

When the business started we were prepared to look after other breeds as well as Finnish Lapphunds, but we soon realised that a house full of Lappies was far easier (and more enjoyable) than having a mix of different breeds.

Since then we have cared for over 150 different Lappies, the majority of which have become regular guests.

Hey, it's a hard life, but someone had to do it ;-)
